What is Frieze Carpet?

Answer:
Frieze carpet is a type of floor covering recommended
for high-traffic areas, because it consists of short, twisted piles of thick wool which move in different directions. This movement tends to hide tracked-in dirt very well, and recovers quickly from the effects of foot traffic.

Frieze carpet is similar in appearance to shag carpet, but the pile in a frieze carpet is generally shorter and more twisted than shag.

Many home flooring experts recommend using frieze carpet in areas of the home where heavy traffic is expected, such as hallways, dining rooms and living rooms.  Sections of frieze carpet can also serve as area rugs in places where shag carpeting would be too thick, or difficult to access with a vacuum cleaner.

Because frieze carpet is made from heavier wool and is more complicated to manufacture, the cost is often higher than standard carpeting, however.  The biggest selling features of frieze carpet are durability, wear resistance and the comfort of a thicker pile carpet.
