What are the Most Common Cold Climate Grasses?

Answer:
Whoever said that lawns were impossible to keep beautiful
in more Northern regions was not familiar with the vast array of hardy, cold climate grasses.  Some of the favorite varieties used throughout the Northern regions include such legends as Kentucky Bluegrass, known for its bluish green color and powerful resistance to disease and pests.

There are the hardy fescues, offered in both tall and short varieties, which work phenomenally well when planted in shade as well as sun.  Coming in both perennial and annual forms, rye grass is the old faithful of cold climate grasses, generally acting as the base seed for grass mixtures which incorporate the above mentioned varieties.  And of course no list would be complete without some mention given to native grasses like the Buffalo grass, which thrives in the upper Midwest and throughout the Rockies.
