What is Broadleaf?

Answer:
Oh the curse of the summer weed.  For anyone who
gardens or has a lawn for which they are proud, the appearance of the broadleaf weed is the bane of their existence.  Of all broadleaf weeds, the dandelion is the most widely recognized, with others like the broadleaf plantain, the creeping buttercup, ground ivy, and white clover all following close behind.

Thankfully, for the summer warrior, there are several means to battle such dreaded opponents.  The first step toward stemming the broadleaf invasion is to maintain a healthy lawn, through proper fertilization and watering, and by implementing proper mowing habits.

Turf needs food to live and water to grow, and if it is mowed too closely, the added sunlight provides the opportunistic broadleaf with plenty of light and room to grow.  Make sure that the lawn seed you plant is made for your area.  Weather that is too hot or too cold can damage the lawn, offering bare places for broadleaf to take root.  There are many garden and lawn fertilizers on the market which offer broadleaf prevention.  If a broadleaf invasion is big, consider investing in a bag or two.
