How do I Water Seal my Deck?
Answer:
There is nothing more aggravating for the home owner
than to suffer water damage on a newly refinished or newly installed deck.  To prevent the ravages of weather from destroying your hard work, it is important to seal the deck properly.  Of course, common sense dictates that the deck must be cleared and properly cleaned before it is sealed, by removing furniture, sweeping up loose debris, and then applying a chemical cleaner to remove the layers of scum and grime that have worked their way past the surface of the wood.

Pressure washers a good substitute for chemical cleaners.  Once the deck has been cleaned according to the instructions on the container and allowed to dry for several days, usually 2 to 3, it is time to apply the sealant.  There are several options available on the market, from clear seals to stains to opaque paints, so look for the one which suits you taste.

It best to apply the sealer over a period of time where rain is not expected.  This ensures that the sealant will absorb completely.

Apply a series of thin, even coats over the entire surface of the deck, using a roller, spray gun, or brush.  It is important to allow each successive layer to dry.  This prevents the accidental removal of previous layers and ensures a nice even appearance once the job is done.
