What are xeric plants? |
|
Answer:
Xeric plants are those which are used in xeriscaping; Most xeric plants will be indigenous to your area – they don’t have to include cacti unless you live in Arizona or another state with a large amount of cacti. Other xeric plants include aloe (and other succulents), native grasses and native wildflowers, and ornamental grasses. Xeriscapers can build a beautiful yard with combinations of xeric plants. Simply check at your local greenhouse or home improvement store for ideas. Another way to xeriscape is to only plant grass which requires a minimal amount of water – or enlarge your deck or patio to reduce the amount of grass needed. Rock gardens are another popular xeriscaping idea, along with grouping plants together according to their water needs and setting up drip systems which give each group what they require and no more. Regardless of the method, xeriscaping is a good way to lower the annual water bill and conserve resources – and the use of xeric plants can build an attractive yard.
