What is a good Lawn care program for Fescue Grass?

Answer:
There are a number of Fescue grasses, including
tall fescue, which is a clumping, taller growing coarse grass; and the finer fescues, which are shorter and less coarse.  Finer fescues are called creeping red, chewings, hard, and sheep fescues.

Since the most common fescue grasses are adaptable to a broad range of climatic extremes and growing conditions, they are popular in many areas of the upper two-thirds of the United States.

Caring for fescue grasses is not difficult, since the fescue grasses are hardy in all but the hottest growing zones (i.e., lower southern United States).

The Lowe's.com helpful hints recommend fertilizing fescues in spring and fall, and mowing fescues to around two to three inches in height.

The Lowe's site also recommends the following maintenance measures for caring for the popular fine fescues.
o In late winter or early spring, apply a lawn fertilizer if winters are typically mild in your area.
--In the Pacific Northwest areas, apply a lawn fertililzer with moss control.
o In late spring or early summer, apply a lawn fertilizer if winters are typically cold in your area.
o In late summer, apply a lawn fertilizer (all growing areas).
o In fall, apply a lawn fertilizer again.

While individual results will undoubtedly vary depending upon a number of factors, these steps should help you keep your fescue grasses healthy for many seasons to come.
