What is a good Lawn care program for Saint Augustine Grass?

Answer:
Saint Augustine grass is considered a warm climate grass,
and is popular in coastal areas, such as the southern U.S. stretch from Florida to California.

Saint Augustine grass does quite well in heat, sunlight, shade, and even salty environments.  Unfortunately, Saint Augustine grass is also fairly fragile when it comes to cold, and is prone to disease and insect infestation.

The Lowe's.com helpful hints recommend fertilizing Saint Augustine grass in spring, summer and fall. In addition, the soil pH should be between 6.5 and 7.5.  Mow Saint Augustine grass at two to three inches in height.

The site also recommends the following maintenance measures:
o In late winter or early spring, apply lime, if soil pH is below 6.5.
o In late spring or early summer, apply lawn fertilizer and insect control, if necessary.
o In late summer, apply lawn fertilizer and insect control again.
o In early fall, apply winterizer or winter conditioner, and specialized Saint Augustine lawn fertilizer.

While individual results will vary, these measures should help keep your Saint Augustine lawn healthy and growing as it should be.
