What is Biomass?

Answer:
Biomass is an alternative fuel source
that utilizes the biological waste of living organisms.

Biomass farms utilize recycled plants, rotwood, and sometimes animal waste to produce a renewable energy source.  Biomass is not any cleaner than fossil fuels, however, because the biomass stores carbon dioxide which is released when the biomass is incinerated.

Biomass power plants turn recycled plant material, wood waste, and other biological materials into fuel.  It reduces reliance on petroleum but isn't any less polluting to the environment because of the stored carbon dioxide in the biomass material.  Biomass transportation far exceeds the cost of the biomass, and as such, each biomass power plant has a limited supply and limited power production capabilities, which currently stand at 1 megawatt hour per month.
