For those of us who live in cooler climates, fescue grass Fescue grass comes in a variety of heights, from finely bladed shorter fescues to taller clumping fescues, with each variety able to reseed freely. One of the beauties of Fescue grass is its ability to stay green throughout the winter months, even in the coldest climates. Because of its tolerance to colder temperatures, fescue grass seed is often found in winter lawn mixtures for southern climates. Fescue will go dormant as temperatures grow hotter, returning to full vibrancy once the temperatures begin to cool again.
