What is Grass?

Answer:
Grass includes three different kinds of graminoids (plants
with leaves that are narrow and grow from a single base): true grasses, sedges and rushes. Types of true grass include turf (what many call grass and which comprises most lawns,) bamboo and cereal grains.

Sedges differ from true grasses in the shape and setting of the leaves and include water chestnuts, papyrus and nutgrass. Rushes also resemble grass and may be called so by a layman, but are technically herbs or woody shrubs. Common types include Baltic rush and Brown Bog rush. Grasses (true or otherwise) occur naturally in nearly every ecosystem but are very popular for ground covering, feeding livestock or even food production for humans.
