What is Hardscape?

Answer:
Every project needs a focal point or feature that helps
tie everything together.  In the case of landscaping, nothing accomplishes this better than a well placed, beautifully designed hardscape.  The term hardscape refers to any permanent structure made from wood, stone, metal, or composite materials, which is used to accentuate plants and planting groups.

Some of the more popular hardscape examples are gazebos, trellises, arbors, walls, and pathways.  Other, less common items that can be included in this category are statuaries, ponds, pools, waterfalls, and sculptures.

Regardless of whether the structure is a simple trellis or an elaborate work of art, the addition of hardscape to a landscape design can transform it from a good idea into an inspired creation of beauty and elegance.
