What is Nature?

Answer:
Nature” generally refers to the
organisms and features on earth that have been left untouched by human development.  For example, national parks are established to protect areas of unique land (nature) from development.

In this sense, the term is often personified, as in “Mother Nature,” to refer to how life operates outside of civilization or even refer to the weather or other phenomena that affect human habitat.  The word is also often used in common speech to refer to the characteristics of the physical world, including the laws of physics, chemistry, biology, etc.

The word is also often used when speaking about people’s tendencies and temperaments, their inherent qualities.  A person can have a competitive nature or compassionate nature, for example.
