grass to grow, St. Augustine grass easily adapts itself to most southern climates. Although it thrives under the hottest conditions, St. Augustine grass is capable of growing in cooler coastal regions.

Unlike other grass varieties, St. Augustine grass needs a higher level of moisture and more fertile soil, requiring more care than less fussy, more drought tolerant types. This grass is not available in seed form and is currently only available as sod or plugs. St. Augustine grass is shade tolerant, growing well under moderate light conditions, and it is also able to thrive in marshy conditions, exposed to both fresh and salt waters.
