What are the Best Housing Markets in Alabama for 2007?

Answer:

The Alabama housing market during 2007 has struggled like so many other American real estate and housing markets.  Although Alabama’s housing market began the year on fairly positive footing, recent figures and statistics put Alabama’s housing market in the same downward spiral seen throughout America.

That said, the current “best” Housing Markets in Alabama are as follows:

Alexander City
– Population, 14,000+.  Located centrally between Birmingham and Montgomery, AL and Columbus, GA; and within reasonable distance of Tuscaloosa, AL and Atlanta, GA. Alexander City is known for its beautiful Lake Martin, a 44,000 acre body of water with 750 miles of shorefront and plenty of wooded seclusion and privacy.  Alexander City home prices range from the million-dollar-plus lakeside mansion to the $100K manufactured home in the country.

Birmingham – Population, city: about a quarter-million; metro: just over one million.  Located in western Alabama, Birmingham is sometimes referred to as the “Magic City”.  Home to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and to some of American Idol’s recent talent celebrity pool, Birmingham offers some of today’s finest cultural and intellectual adventures available.  Birmingham home prices range from the $4.5 million, 8500+ square foot older mansion with 16 rooms to the under $20,000 two-bedroom bungalow on a neighborhood “park” site.

Dothan – Population, 135,000+.  Located in the southeastern corner of Alabama, Dothan is becoming an alternative “retirement community” to some of Florida’s spill-over.  Dothan has been proclaimed “Peanut Capital of the World” (several other southern cities also claim the same title), and is a growing hub-city for the region.
Dothan home prices range from $400K+ for 2800 square feet on over an acre of land, to mid $70,000’s for 1300 square feet of living on five acres.
