There is a saying, ‘a picture says a thousand
words.’  Well, in the world of construction and design, a floor plan is the ‘picture’ that tells the story of a building. 

Floor plans are basically a two dimensional representation of the building, displaying all of the specifications for structure like the size, room placement, room dimensions, wall thicknesses, and the arrangement of rooms, as well as offering the location for things like windows, closets, doors and their swing orientation, and walls. 

Some floor plans are complex enough to show electrical outlets, lighting fixtures, and plumbing layouts, making it very easy to install and later locate these items for repair or replacement though these are usually shown in the blueprints.
