What is a French Country Style house?

Answer:
The French Country style house is based on old
world rustic and welcoming appearance and strong display of functionality.  However, French Country style is not to be confused with French Chateaux style, which primarily reflects nobility, wealth and power.

Some early French Country dwellings were built from stone, shaped somewhat like an igloo, and even constructed similarly. Designs for this French Country style house, known as Bories, were simple and functional, and do not resemble today's French Country style house; although some very basic influences have managed to remain.

Over time, methods and materials have improved, and French Country houses have become larger, lovelier, and livelier

Today's French Country style house often is quite large with many rooms.  Hipped roofs are still very common characteristics, as are the rugged looking, flared eaves, dormers (often arched) and window designs.

French Country style houses today are often clad with brick, stone or stucco siding, and are capable of adding that French Country welcoming charm to any building site.
