What is a FSBO?

Answer:
In the world of real estate, there is a rise in FSBO listings,
or ‘For Sale By Owner’ listings.  In an attempt to cut out the middle man real estate agent, many more home owners are turning to self promotion by offering their homes for sale to potential buyers without enlisting the professional help of a realtor or real estate broker.

FSBO homes remove the monetary loss of commissions typically paid to the representative broker.  In FSBO listings, the home owner lists the home in any number of public listings, both in print and online, acting as both marketer and salesperson for their home.  The homeowner of the FSBO is solely responsible for ensuring that improvements and inspections are done for their listing, as well as gathering pertinent tax information, and the like, for potential buyers.  There are even FSBO organizations which offer online guidance and checklists for the FSBO seller to ensure that all of the bases are covered before the home goes on the market.  Generally, most FSBO listings will list a home for a 12 month period, or until such time as the house is sold.
