What is a Home Inspection?

Answer:
Before committing to the purchase of a home, it is
recommended that a home inspection occur before papers are signed but after an offer is made.  A home inspection involves the examination of a home from top to bottom, to evaluate whether the home is safe and free from damage.

A professional home inspector is called to make this evaluation.

The home inspection generally begins with a walk through the house, looking for mechanical or structural deficiencies in the supports, wiring, and structure of home.

The examination is then expanded into the attic and down into the basement, if there is one, to check for foundational deterioration.

A home inspection will also include inspection of the roof to check for leaks and damage, with the final investigation concluding with inspection of systems like air-conditioning units and heating systems.  Once a house has passed its home inspection, it is safe to sign the papers.
