What is a Radon System? |
|
Answer:
A Radon System (or, more accurately, a Radon If Radon gas is found in buildings in levels above what are considered safe allowable limits, it should be dealt with effecively and securely, in order to protect building occupants. A variety of steps are recommended in most cases, including: o Soil depressurization - Method where the soil below a building's foundation is "ventilated" by way of a below-floor excavation, PVC piping connected to an exterior fan, and piped up and away from windows or doors. o Sealing of walls and floors - Concrete floors and walls are porous, and as such, allow Radon gas to seep through. Approved sealers can eliminate that infiltration. o Sealing of sump holes - Because Radon gas can be emitted from ground water, it is a good idea to seal up any sump openings to contain and remove any Radon gas along with the water. Note that Radon gas mitigating is not a typical DIY project, as it involves careful measurements, and engineering designs that meet environmental and other requirements. Some localities may require certified professional design and construction only.
