What is a Rec-Room?

Answer:
A Rec-Room is a room in a house typically used for recreational purposes,
such as table-tennis, foosball, pinball, pool, or for parties and other gatherings.  Also known as a family-room or playroom or game room or even "rumpus room", a rec-room is mostly where folks PLAY!

Rec-rooms are, by and large, an American tradition, and the term "rec-room" (for defining such a room for use primarily for play) is of recent origins; perhaps since just after World War II.

This is not to say that earlier Americans or other cultures did not make time or space for their favorite play; it just means that in America the rec-room became wide spread and popular, many families converting their basements into these family-friendly spaces where they could be together and enjoy one anothers' company. Some new home designs incorporate rec-rooms into the original plans, and they are no longer confined just to basement areas.

The rec-room philosophy is simple enough, and so important in our busy, mixed up world:  Be sure to take time to play!
