While many people are familiar with one story, two
story, and split level homes, few may know the secret behind a reverse story home.  What appears, at first glance, to be a ranch or split level home, may very well be one of these modern marvels.

With a reverse story house, the master bedroom is located on the main level, and depending on the design, will share floor space with the kitchen, a family room, and at least one bathroom. 

The difference with a reverse story house comes in the location of the other bedrooms.  In stead of being located on a level above the first, in a reverse story house, the other bedrooms are found in a level below the first, typically in the area known as the basement.  Reverse story houses are very energy efficient because they use the natural insulating properties of the ground to help reduce energy costs for heating and cooling.
