What is a Screened-in Porch?

Answer:
A screened-in porch is, by literal definition, a porch
which has been enclosed with screening material.  Somehow, that definition seems insufficient for what we think of as today's screened in porch, however.

Today's screened-in porch might very well be a complete structure unto itself.  By that, I mean that it is now possible to purchase factory pre-fabricated screened-porch kits that are a far cry from yesterday's screened-in porch.  Indeed, there are actually several such kits available; see a few links below.

There are also kits available to retrofit existing porches to make them into enjoyable screened-in porches.  These kits usually consist of a mounting track system which is designed to grip and hold screening material against existing structural porch members.

Screened-in porches very likely date as far back as when people decided they enjoyed spending time outside, but did not enjoy being eaten alive by mosquitoes or other bothersome insects.  Somehow, I know they found a way to isolate themselves so they could still enjoy what they wanted to enjoy.

Screened-in porch kits can be purchased for nearly all budgets and tastes, and I know from personal experience that screened-in porches are truly a "place", rather than a "room".  Indeed, that is where one can share the outdoors with the rest of nature; the birds, squirrels, deer, chipmunks, rabbits, and whatever else may agree to share their space with you.
