What is Asbestos? |
|
Answer:
Not everything that is natural is necessarily good It was not until the industrial revolution that asbestos found its true calling as an insulator and fire retardant. If there was a high temperature product, chances were, it was insulated with asbestos. Products like kilns, ovens, and boilers all benefited from the heat-shielding power of asbestos. Buildings of all sorts soon followed suit by using asbestos as insulation in walls and ceilings. Although asbestos has its benefits, the harm it causes in human lungs outweighs its current usefulness. Diseases like asbestosis and silicosis have been directly linked to asbestos exposure, which proves that the term ‘natural’ is not always synonymous with ‘healthful’.
