What are Mullion Door Cabinets?

Answer:
Mullion door cabinets can be readily identified
by their grid framework and glass (or similar material) paneling. Mullion door cabinets allow the contents to be at least partially visible, such as formal dinnerware and pantry items.

Mullion door cabinets are generally manufactured in two separate processes.  The outer door and grid moldings are constructed by skilled cabinet makers and often sold without glass.

The moldings are designed to receive custom-cut panels of glass, which may include some unusual curves and arches for visual interest.  Other materials besides glass can also be installed in the grids, including plastic or wood paneling.

While mullion doors are usually designed in the same vein as decorative window frames, there is another technique which employs "false" mullion door designs.  A single piece of glass is first installed in a standard cabinet door frame, then a completed wooden grid is glued over the pane to create the same effect as a true mullion door without the need to cut and install individual panes of glass.
