What is a Conduit?

Answer:
If you have ever groaned at the messy strands of loose
cables dangling down the walls of your home or office building, then you have discovered one of the many uses for conduit.  More commonly found in industrial environments, conduit is used as a housing unit for electrical wires and cables, to safely hold them together.

Conduit is generally made from pipe or tubing and comes in a variety of diameters and lengths.  The different conduit sizes accommodate the variety of wire and cable gauge sizes.

Materials for conduit may vary from metal to plastic to PVC and can be rated for both interior and exterior usage, offering wires and cables protection from the deteriorative effects of temperature extremes.  Conduit can be run above or below ground, depending upon the building code requirements of the area, providing a clean location for electrical wiring and cables, no matter where they are installed.
