Berber Carpet is a style of carpet-weave, reflecting
influence from the Berber tribes of North African origin.  Berber carpet was once primarily off-white in color, said to be representative of the cloaks and floor coverings created by the Berber people.

Berber carpet usually has a sculpted look, created by variations in the pile-loop heights.  Most Berber carpets are of multi-level loop design.  Berber carpets are available in a variety of designs and styles, including variegated coloring, subtle stripes, and more. 

Berber carpet was once mostly made from wool, but now is made from synthetic fibers like nylon, polypropylene, and polyester.  Berber carpet is said to wear well, and the sculpted loop design helps hide dirt or stains better than level loop carpet. 

Some sources warn against careless cleaning of Berber carpet, and to be extra careful not to snag any loops (with vacuums or other equipment).  Snagging can lead to significant carpet damage requiring professional repair.
