What is Brick Veneer?

Answer:
For those of us who cannot afford the cost associated
with full blown masonry, both on the interior and exterior of our home, brick veneer can offer the best of both worlds, marrying the beauty of brick while eliminating the high cost of intricate masonry.

Typically, construction using brick veneer begins with a wood frame and backing (usually either plywood or fiberboard), which together gives the support and stability for the wall.

Next, the brick veneer is added and adhered to the wood framework, creating the illusion of a masterpiece of masonry.  Brick veneer is not designed to be load bearing, with the support being furnished by the wood frame.

Brick veneer is designed for appearances only.  Brick veneer can be as thick as a single layer of conventional brick mortared to the outside of the wooden frame but can also be found made from “half bricks” which are typically used on interior rooms to reduce the amount of space taken up by a full brick depth.
