What is Combustion Air?

Answer:
In order for combustion to occur, there are three things
that are needed – an ignition source like a flame or pilot light, a fuel source like wood or natural gas, and an oxygen source.

With a furnace, boiler, or hot water system, combustion air is the oxygen supply that is integrated into the system to keep the fuel burning.

Combustion air is typically supplied through a series of ducts or pipes
, supplied either from the surrounding ambient air or from a fresh supply outside.  Depending on the application, combustion air, once heated, is typically vented into the atmosphere carrying with it excess heat and/or steam.
