What is Engineered Wood?

Answer:
If you have ever wondered what to do with the leftovers
in your refrigerator, then you might understand the quandary that faced lumber companies for years – what to do with their leftover wood.  The answer was to create what is popularly called engineered wood.  Engineered wood is an economical building material made from the wood scraps that result after a tree is milled into usable lumber.

Engineered wood, such as plywood, is made from slices of wood that are glued and sandwiched together.  Fiberboards and particle boards are made from the fibers and chips left by the milling process, which are held together with binding adhesives and are then milled into standard board sizes.  All engineered wood can be viewed as a composite material, offering the warmth and strength of wood, while incorporating the stability of industrial adhesives.  Think of it this way.  Engineered wood not only saves the consumer money on building materials, it helps the lumber companies deal with their perpetual leftovers.
